The JamDoughnut app has very quickly become one of my favourites, due to its decent rates of cashback and the huge amount of retailers it has partnered with. But I didn’t always feel this way. In fact, for a very long time, I was reluctant to use it as it seemed overly complicated and I just didn’t really understand how it worked.
But I recently took the plunge and downloaded it and I’m so glad I did! I’ve already earned a good chunk of cashback and I feel a little annoyed with myself for putting it off for so long, as it’s really very simple to use.

What is JamDoughnut?
JamDoughnut is a free app that you can download and use to earn cashback with hundreds of retailers. But unlike many other cashback apps/sites where you have to click on a link before you make a purchase, JamDoughnut saves you money when you purchase gift cards through the app instead.

How does JamDoughnut Work?
First, you’ll need to download the app from the App Store or Google Play and create an account. It’s very easy to do and it took me less than a minute. Alternatively, you can download JamDoughnut via any of the links in this post, enter my code BAH5, and you’ll receive a £2 bonus once you buy your first gift card.
Once you have the app downloaded, it’s simply a case of searching the app for retailers and buying a gift card for the shop you wish to use. As soon as you have purchased that gift card, you will receive your cashback in the form of points. As soon as you reach 1,000 points (£10), you can cash out. It will go directly into your bank account. That’s the beauty of this app – the cashback is instant – no more waiting for months and months.
I’ll give an example below of the steps I take to purchase my gift cards for Tesco.
I type ‘Tesco’ into the search bar (easier than trawling through a huge list of retailers), then click on ‘Purchase Securely’. I then type in the amount I want to load the gift card with. I usually do £100, as this will cover the majority of my weekly shopping. Now, you can wait until you’re in store and know exactly how much your bill will be so that you can purchase that exact amount, but I get a bit stressed out doing it that way, as I sometimes don’t get good reception when out and I run the risk of annoying everyone in the queue behind me, and possibly not being able to purchase the gift card at all.

I then click ‘Purchase securely’ again and am given the option of paying via my banking app or paying with Apple Pay. As you can see, you receive a much higher percentage of cashback if you choose to pay via your banking app. So, I then click ‘pay by bank’, and I am directed to my banking app where I can complete my transaction securely.

Once you have completed your payment, you’ll be able to find your gift card in the ‘wallet’ section of the app. It will either be in the form of a code, a bar code, or both. Just show this to the cashier (or input online if you are shopping online) and the total amount of the gift card will be deducted from your bill.
If the gift card doesn’t cover the full amount, you simply pay the excess as you would usually pay. If there is any money left on your gift card, this will sit securely in your ‘wallet’ for you to use next time.
Updating your Gift card Balance
Your gift cards are stored in the app in your ‘wallet’. Once you have used a gift card, you will usually need to update the balance manually, so that you can keep track of how much you have left remaining on each gift card. You can do this by clicking on the wallet icon and selecting the gift card you are using. then simply enter the amount you have spent on that particular visit. JamDoughnut will calculate how much is left remaining on that gift card.
What brands can I choose from?
Jam Doughnut has a huge range of partners and at the time of writing, there are over 150 brands available. The image below shows a small amount of what’s available.

Can I use JamDoughnut Online and In-Store?
In most cases, yes. There are a few retailers that will only allow you to use your gift card in-store (Tesco is one of these) or just online. But JamDoughnut will tell you clearly beforehand.
How Much Cashback Can I Earn?
Cash back varies from retailer to retailer, but it ranges from 3% – 21%. On average, you can expect to earn around 8%.
Is my Data Secure?
JamDoughnut is committed to protecting your privacy. They do not sell your data and they don’t store your card or bank details. Instead, they use secure 3rd party card and bank processing services who use a highly secure vaulting system.
Can you stack discounts/rewards?
Yes! And this is one of the reasons I love this app so much. If you find a discount code online for a shop you are looking to purchase from, you can use that code alongside JamDoughnut. So, you will get the discount PLUS the cash back!
